BIM 360 Glue Training Training for BIM 360 Glue is conducted on a per project basis.  It will be scheduled by your VDC Manager after your project requests access to the platform.

BIM 360 Glue Crashing If you are experiencing crashing or slowness within BIM 360 Glue, please manually uninstall and reinstall the software before creating a ticket. We have found this solves many of these issues. Best of all, this does not require admin rights. STEP 1: Open a Windows Explorer window and copy and paste %localappdata%\Autodesk\ into the Address Bar and hit the Enter key on your keyboard. STEP 2: Delete all the folders which have Glue in the name. STEP 3: In the Windows Explorer window, copy and paste this into the address bar %localappdata%\Apps\2.0 and hit the Enter key STEP 4: Delete all the contents of this folder. Don't worry, everything will be recreated later STEP 5: Restart your computer. STEP 6: Reinstall BIM360 Glue by visiting this link: https://b4.autodesk.com/desktop If you continue to experience problems, please submit a ticket. Please note that you already tried these steps otherwise we may ask you to do the same thing again.

BIM 360 Glue: Acquiring Access to a New Project  SB Project VD&C Engineer Steps Involved: STEP 1: When we have won the bid and finalized list of subcontractors, add the project to BIM 360 Glue by placing a helpdesk ticket request STEP 2: Decide required subcontractors to conduct 3D models to be “glued” into BIM 360 Glue. STEP 3: Add project members (subcontractors) to project and assign a markup color to each member STEP 4: Upload design model from design team and/or in-house to BIM 360 Glue using the preferred method of Glue Add-Ins in Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks and Civil 3D.  STEP 5: Set up folder structure by phases, buildings, and levels (See Best practices for setting up folder structure in BIM 360 Glue). Why this step is important:  1. Allows the subcontractors to be informed about the project early-on in the coordination process and to prepare for items of discussion during BIM kick-off meeting. 2. Prepare and initialize the platform serving as the focal point where subcontractors and SB collaborate during the coordination process. Do’s:  1. Carefully identify those subcontractors required to produce 3D models which the expected value obtained from clash resolution using BIM 360 Glue justifies the costs of producing the trade-specific model. 2. Ensure color association with each project member remains permanent throughout the coordination process once established. Don’ts:  1. Do not delay setting up the project and project members  2. Do not require all subcontractors to produce 3-D model for BIM 360 Glue without first evaluating the potential advantages and costs for the project.  

BIM 360 Glue: Setting Up Your Project Origin and Creating Background Models and Files for Use SB VDC Team Steps Involved: STEP 1: Set up shared coordinates system based on civil survey file in Revit and move and rotate Revit models to correctly locate them on site. (See BIM 360 Glue Shared Coordinate Process)   STEP 2: Upload native Revit files with shared coordinate data to BIM 360 Glue - mark date and corresponding contract drawing set they reflect to. STEP 3: Convert 2D floor and ceiling plans and 3D model view in Revit to AutoCAD dwg files with shared coordinate data.  STEP 4: Open the files in AutoCAD to confirm coordinates system has been shared.  Upload them to BIM 360 Glue under (2D and 3D AutoCAD Backgrounds) - mark date and corresponding contract drawing set they reflect to. STEP 5: Set up trade-specific 3D views in Revit and separate them by building and levels for coordination in BIM 360 Glue STEP 6: Glue 3D views using BIM 360 Glue add-in for Revit under “Swinerton and Design Team Models” folder.   Why this step is important: 1. Using a common set of coordinate system will eliminate alignment issues when subcontractors and SB models are merged. 2. Subcontractors with Revit software can use as a reference in drafting their own models 3. Background files for subcontractors to draft in shared coordinate system 4. Allow ease of use on BIM 360 Glue iPad and web version in turning on/off trade views. Do's:  1. Verify all Revit, 2D and 3D AutoCAD dwg files contains the share coordinate data correctly by comparing against with the real world coordinate data from civil survey file and/or survey station. Don’ts:  1. Don’t distribute Revit and AutoCAD files to subcontractors without establishing shared coordinate system first.

Email notifications will display the messages. 3. As a best practice, create views and mark-ups from the client version. Don’ts: 1. Don’t use Outlook to send markups or communicate coordination as much as possible. Leverage BIM 360 through visual representation of issues and attached comments and for managing the coordination process. “A picture is worth a thousand words.” You cannot create views from the iPad only view what was created on the client version.

BIM 360 Glue: Inviting Subcontractors and Consultants  SB Project Team, Subcontractors  Steps Involved:  STEP 1: Log into BIM 360 Glue STEP 2: Select the “admin” menu from the user menu in the top right hand side of the screen STEP 3: Select the “projects” menu on the left hand side of the screen STEP 4: Hover over the project that you’d like to add subcontractors and consultants to and click on “Manage project members” STEP 5: You can then add members, remove project members or modify their project access from this menu   Why this step is important:  1. Adding, removing and modifying team members for a project is a necessity for managing a project coordination project Do's:  1. Provide training on BIM 360 Glue by using the (360 Glue training guide materials) prior to providing access to the 360 Glue site 2. Provide the correct level of access depending on the users comfort level with the program and their role on the project 3. Collect a list from your subcontractors of the detailers, general foreman and project managers that will need access to the 360 Glue site 4. Add them all at the same time and send out a follow up email with the steps involved to sign in as well as the subcontractor startup guide. Don’ts:  1. Add any subcontractors or consultants as a project administrator 2. Provide access to the site prior to providing training

BIM 360 Glue: File Transmission Legal Requirements  Champion and Pursuit Team  Steps Involved:  STEP 1: Collect all designer file transmission / BIM disclaimer forms STEP 2: Modify the Swinerton disclaimer form specific for each subcontractor and consultant who will be utilizing the 360 Glue site STEP 3: Send all disclaimer forms to each subcontractor for signature and return Why this step is important:  1. This will protect Swinerton and our Clients from unnescessary risk from subcontractors utilizing the files to estimate, fabricate and install from Do's:  1. Collect the required sign offs as early as possible so that file transmissions can take place as needed Don’ts:  1. Send or give access to electronic CAD or BIM information for any subcontractor prior to receiving their returned, executed disclaimer forms. 

BIM 360 Glue: Setting Up the Correct Coordination Phasing for Your Project  Champion and Pursuit Team  Steps Involved: STEP 1: Begin reviewing the default flow chart for Glue, New or Retrofit Project? STEP 2: Understand the status of the Design, what is complete what isn’t? STEP 3: Review the Construction schedule, where is the Superintendent beginning first?  Is there sufficient time to complete coordination before construction?  You may have to phase out your coordination to follow the schedule. Some retrofit projects begin on an upper floor not always level 1. STEP 4: Typically you begin coordination with Underground first, Level 1, Level 2, etc. Step 2 and Step 3 may change this scenario. STEP 5: Based on the information above, you should be able to understand the major phasing for coordination. Phase 1 – Underground/Basement (as applicable) Phase 2 – Level 1 Phase 3 – Level 2 Continue phasing by level as applicable Consider Shaft Coordination early in the coordination project. Typically in Phase 1 or Phase 2 STEP 6: Each phase you should understand in detail how to coordinate. Please review the default flow chart. As you can see there are 5 Stages to each Phase of coordination. STEP 7: Furthermore, if you have a large foot print of a building, you may want to consider dividing the floors into half’s and or to portions that best fits. Other words Phase 1 may have Phase 1 Area A and Phase 1 Area B. Each Area will have the 5 Stages to follow. STEP 8: Also consider that HVAC likes to begin from the shaft, Plumbing from the Shafts and Plumbing Risers, Electrical likes to begin from the Electrical Room and IDF Rooms. Fire Sprinkler likes to begin with Ceiling plan to layout their heads then branch lines and Mains last. Why this step is important:  1.  Allows you to effectively begin coordination with a plan 2.  Project subcontractors have a better understand how they should prepare their detailers.                 Do's:  1. Be sure to consult with the Design Team/Subcontractors on your proposed phasing schedule. Encourage feedback. 2. Ensure you have incorporated the construction schedule into your phasing plan Don'ts: 1. Change the phasing unless necessary. Stick to the plan 2. Begin coordination on a phase that is last constructed
