How to transfer your data from your old PC to the new PC

 

Follow the steps below to transfer your user data from your old PC to the new PC:

 
On your Old PC:
  1. Open the File Explorer.
  2. In the left sidebar, expand This PC and navigate to C:\Users\”your account”
  3. Highlight the Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and Favorites folders (see screenshot below), right-click and Copy.
  4. Create a new folder:
    1. Open your Swinerton OneDrive folder (search for "OneDrive" in the Start menu or open it from the File Explorer sidebar) and create a new folder in its directory (right-click > New > Folder). NOTE: You must be on Swinerton network
      OR
    2. For files over 50 gigs open your external thumb or hard drive and create a new folder in its directory (right-click > New > Folder).
  5. In the new folder, right-click and Paste the folders you’ve copied previously.

On your New PC:
    1. Sign in to your OneDrive account (search for OneDrive in the Start menu or open it from the File Explorer sidebar) and open the folder above. NOTE: You must be on Swinerton network
       OR
    2. For files over 50 gigs plug in the external thumb or hard drive and open the folder above.
  1. Copy the Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and Favorites folders.
  2. Navigate to C:\Users\”your account” and paste the folders.
  3. Click Yes to allow it to overwrite the current folders on your new PC with the contents you’ve copied from your old PC.
  4. Your documents, shortcuts, and bookmarks should be now restored on your new PC.
  5. You are all set!


Note: If your Windows folders were already set to sync to OneDrive just sign in to OneDrive and they will sync over! This must be set up beforehand, but see this article for instructions: OneDrive: Sync Your Default Windows Folders to OneDrive
